Employee Spotlight: Andrew Fuquay

By Christopher Lloyd

Andrew Fuquay joined Aspire Indiana Health nearly a year ago as a Residential Recovery Associate at Progress House, Indiana’s oldest and largest recovery residence.

As part of the operations team, he helps maintain the safety and flow of everyday operations at the facility. He facilitates interviews, admissions, med pass management and many other daily functions at the house. He also organizes a 12 Step workshop for residents to help learn about the steps and understand how they can help each of them.

“During my time at Aspire, I've learned many things that helped me develop into a better employee. Aspire has actually helped me develop into a better person overall. Being a part of Aspire and working at Progress House has definitely helped broaden my knowledge on substance abuse as well as many different mental health issues,” Andrew says.

He was familiar with Progress House having previously been a resident himself. Like many individuals who are on a recovery journey, they find themselves drawn to the life of helping others with substance issues -- as much a calling as a vocation.

“The program has also fueled me to continue to grow and spread my experiences with others around me. Last May I was able to complete all requirements to become a certified Community Health Worker/Certified Recovery Specialist.

“I have found new peace from my job. I have learned many new things from working with people from different walks of life. I have received a new perspective on life. I continue to spread some of the same knowledge I've received from this program with hopes of raising more awareness around me,” he says.

“The number of lives we impact daily are remarkable and that is one of the best perks of the job!”
