Third Annual Stand Up For Kids!
On September 9, 2017, a record-breaking crowd of 370 filled the ballroom of the historic Paramount Theatre in Anderson for Kids Talk’s 3rd Annual Stand Up For Kids fundraiser.
The night of clean stand-up comedy, delicious food, and silent auction brought in $35,000 for Kids Talk, Aspire Indiana’s Child Advocacy Center in Madison County. The headline comedy act was top Indiana comedian Dave Dugan, known for his self-deprecating sense of humor and his observations about everyday life. John Branyan elicited much laughter with his witty humor and his hilarious Shakespearean rendition of The Three Pigs. Branyan and Dugan’s performances were made possible by title sponsors Community Hospital and St. Vincent Anderson.
Four well known members of the Anderson community had a crack at stand up during the amateur competition. Anne Pancol of Hoosier Park Racing and Casino won the contest with her Louisiana charm and Cajun comedy. Anne performed for East Central Indiana CASA and the charity will receive a $1000 donation for her efforts. Other amateur performers were Indiana State Representative Terri Austin, Madison County Prosecutor Rodney Cummings, and radio personality Doug Zook.
The highlight of the evening was the screening of a new, moving video about Kids Talk and the work that it does in helping and protecting abused and neglected children. Following the video, audience members made donations totalling over $4,000! Other funds were raised through tickets sales and a silent auction of over 50 items. In addition, event guests got colorful blinking rings when they bought chances to win the “Bling Ring,” a beautiful 14k gold with two carat diamond ring.
Money raised at Stand Up For Kids will be used to provide free advocacy and forensic interview services to children who are abused and neglected or are at risk in Madison County. Kids Talk’s prevention programs for elementary and high school students will also be funded by proceeds from the event.
Aspire Indiana is proud of the tremendous success of Kids Talk and Stand Up For Kids and we look forward to seeing you at this fun night for a great cause next year!
